Biography of Dr. Barlow
Doctor Barlow has been doing General Dentistry for 29 years and is capably experienced in all phases of dentistry except Orthodontics (Braces). He has received specialty training in Prosthodontics (Crowns, Bridges and Dentures) from the University of Minnesota 1974-76, where he did research and completed a Master’s Thesis. Every two years, Dr. Barlow completes at least 50 units of Continuing Education to keep current with the latest dental procedures, materials and techniques.
Dr. Barlow grew up in the San Fernando Valley in the cities of Van Nuys and Encino. He graduated from Birmingham High School in 1966, and then attended Pierce Junior College before transferring to UCLA. He was on the swimming team throughout high school and went to all-city finals two times. He is an Eagle Scout and currently is a merit badge counselor for swimming and dentistry. At age 19, he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mexico and speaks fluent Spanish.
From 1971 to 1974, Dr. Barlow attended dental school at the University of the Pacific in San Francisco. Following that, he went the University of Minnesota for training in Prosthodontics, a specialty field of dentistry focusing on dentures, partials and crowns. While there, Dr. Barlow did research and wrote a master’s thesis on porcelain crowns. From 1977 to 1979 he lived in Phoenix and limited his practice to Prosthodontics. He then returned to Los Angeles where he began practicing general dentistry in the South Bay from 1979 to the present. During that time, from 1988 to 1991, he was involved in the South Bay Periodontal Study Club. The club did surgery cases in his office and learned about Periodontics on a monthly basis.
Dr. Barlow and his wife have four children, two boys and two girls. His favorite hobbies are following the stock market and improving the world through the development of several inventions and marketing ideas. With 29 years of practicing dentistry, Dr. Barlow has the experience and capability to do most everything necessary to satisfy his patient’s dental needs.
